Matthew 6:9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

  • It begins with the revelation of the Father
  • When you pray you have to know that God is your Father and you are His son
  • Hallowed means honored
  • Begin your prayer with honor: praising and worshiping Him
  • Father means source of life

The first three petitions have to do with the interests of the Kingdom: "Hallowed be your name" "Your kingdom come" "Your will be done"

The last three with personal needs: "Give us our daily bread today" "Forgive us our debts" "And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from evil"

What does honor mean?

  • To be valued, to be esteemed
  • You cannot value someone if you do not discern who that person is
  • We must recognize the Father, as our source
  • God will be for you what you call Him to be

Example: There is a difference between calling a person's name and a person's title. If you call me Lupe you will receive from Lupe, if you call me Pastor you will receive from Pastor, if you call me Dad you will receive from Dad

  • Honor brings heaven to earth
  • God is my source - God is my priority

What are the ways we honor our Heavenly Father?

  1. We honor him with our mouth and heart
  2. Praise Him and be thankful to God

Isaiah 29:13 Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

 

  1. We honor Him with our obedience

 

Deuteronomy 11:13 And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

 

  1. We honor God with our resources

 

Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

 

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

 

  • God honors Himself by keeping His Word
  • God honors His Word
  • You are as credible as your word is

 

Malachi 1:6 “A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’

 

  • We can relate as children or as servants

 

  • The son serves his Father willingly with love
