Pt.2
- The word holy appears more than a thousand times in the bible. It means to be cut off, set apart and separated
- Holiness is a state of being. It is being in the continuous state of being separated and apart.
- Holiness is a state of being pure and innocent
- Holiness is connected to purity and innocence
- Holiness is your spiritual and personal hygiene ˈ(hī-ˌjēn)
What holiness is not:
- Holiness is not keeping rules
- It is not the way you dress
- It has nothing to do with external appearance
- It has to do with your heart
- The way you see God is the way you see yourself and is the way you see others
How do we apply holiness?
1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
2 Timothy 2:21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, (la-tər)he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
- God established the law of separation so that there can be a distinction
Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
- The purpose of holiness is to avoid contamination
- Without separation there is no distinction
- When there is no separation there will be contamination
- What is the difference between you and your friends?
- The temptation in leadership now a days is the mixtures
- The temptation in mixtures is to be accepted
- Today you must make a decision, to let go of friends that are contaminating you
- When you separate yourself is when God begins to cleanse you
- When you separate yourself is when the change begins
- The one who is not separated looks like the rest
- When you are in holiness you speak differently, you think differently
- When you are separated you no longer have your own will
- You will always carry the anointing while you are separated
- You are not ready to bear fruit until you are separated.
The purpose of being separated?
- Is because God sets you apart for Him
Exodus 19:6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
- You are separated exclusively for God's use
- Many are separated for their business, for family, for sports but not for God
- God sets you apart for a calling and a purpose
1 Kings 19:19-21 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen (äk-sən) before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw\ ˈthrü) his mantle on him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21 So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.
Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
- God first sets you apart for Him and then purpose and calling will be raveal
- Mixtures come the moment you decide to do something that is not your purpose
Two keys to consecration:
- Abstinence
- Discipline
- This is your part in holiness
- To prevent contamination
- Contamination is something that has poisoned your heart
- Contamination is to corrupt by association
- One thing is to be separated and another thing is to be isolated (iso·lat·ed |
- When you isolate yourself, you will not influence anyone
Hebrews 12:15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
- A bitter person is a person abused from childhood who never dealt with that
- When you open your spirit to gossip you will receive the same judgment
- You begin to look at the person who spoke badly to you, differently
Illustration: Clean water and then changes color
- Mixtures come from associations
- We were born contaminated and it comes from iniquity (moral perversion)
- There are people who never processed pain and that formed their character.
Psalm 51: 5-7 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, \ ˈhi-səp) and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Contaminations:
- Contamination in the eyes
- Offenses, wounds
- Rejection
- Abandonment
- Gossip
- Soul ties
- Pornography
- Sexual ties
- Addictions
- Rebellion
- Lying
- There are people you have close to you who are toxic relationships
How to be cleansed?
- By the blood of Christ
- The Word of God
- The fire of the Holy Spirit
- We are going to make a pact of holiness
- This is a preparation of the bride
- To own your inheritance
Acts 20:32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
